Yellow slip in Cyprus

Registration certificates for EU/EEA nationals and their family members: MEU1, MEU2 and MEU3 explained.

If you are an EU (European Union) or EEA (European Economic Area) national seeking to live and work in Cyprus, you will need to apply for the yellow slip (commonly referred to as the Cyprus residence permit). The yellow slip allows you to live, work and move freely within Cyprus.

  • EU/EEA nationals must register with the Civil Registry and Migration Department within 4 months from the date of their arrival.
  • EU/EEA nationals who will be locally employed must register immediately upon arrival, regardless of the duration of their employment.

Depending on each individual’s circumstances, the following certificates can be issued:

MEU1 – Registration Certificate

No expiry date. Issued to EU nationals who are:

  • locally employed or self-employed;
  • not employed (provided sufficient financial means exist);
  • direct family members of registered EU nationals;
  • assignees under the Posted Workers Directive.

MEU2 – Residence Card

Valid for 5 years. Issued to non-EU nationals who are:

  • the spouse or partner of an EU national;
  • direct descendants under 21 of an EU national or of their spouse/partner;
  • direct relatives in the ascending line of an EU national or of their spouse/partner (as defined by law).

MEU3 – Permanent Residence Certificate

No expiry date. Issued to EU nationals and their family members who can prove legal and uninterrupted residence in the Republic for 5 years.

ACLA Auditors can assist you with the preparation and submission of the necessary information to the Civil Registry and Migration Department.
